Nantou badongguan ancient road, the Trail between valleys.

Dongpu Yunlong Waterfall is located on the western section of the Nantou badongguan ancient road. It is not a long way from the entrance of Dongpu, about 4 kilometers or so, and the terrain of the valleys along the road is spectacular and beautiful, which makes it possible to take good photos of the mountain scenery – it is a good place to go for trekking in Nantou!

Dongpu Suspension Bridge
Since it is not convenient to park at the entrance of Pat Tung Kwan Old Road, we suggest you to park at the parking lot next to the suspension bridge of Dongpu, and it is not very far from here.

The sunshine at 8:30am, with a slight mist in the air, made the mountain scenery even more beautiful, this is the viewpoint from the suspension bridge.

The suspension bridge crosses the Patong Stream, and after walking across it, you need to climb a short hill to the entrance of Patong Pass.

At the entrance is the aboriginal tribal area, which is relatively gentle, so you can see a lot of farmland, and it’s nice to see such a view in the morning, but we have to be careful not to make a lot of noise when we pass by!

On the way back, I realized that part of the mountain wall behind the farm had collapsed, it was a scary sight….

The first part of the trail is relatively steep (not quite strenuous), and after a short section of bamboo forest, you will start to be exposed to the sun, but the trail will start to become gentle, so it’s kind of like a walk – it’s a good idea to bring a sun hat.

The sky was still slightly foggy at 9am.

I returned to the same place at around 3:00 p.m., and there was a slanting light streaming into the valleys. The mountainous area is prone to cloudy skies in the afternoon, and it’s easy to get this view when the sunlight passes through the gaps in the clouds.

Soon after you walk out of the forest, you will see a crumbling wall, the rocks on the wall are very big, it’s really stressful to pass by…. Don’t talk loudly, just go through quickly. (You can see a lot of fallen rocks on the stone stairs)

The trail between the Yunlong Waterfall is almost always on the edge of a cliff, and many sections are without guardrails, so as long as you walk carefully there is basically not too much of a problem, and don’t stop at places where there are falling rocks!

Very special iron cage bridge, this is supposed to make the bridge more supportive, whenever there is a small bridge, there is a crumbling wall, not too many people on the bridge at the same time!

The most comfortable terrain is shaded by trees, the flat dirt roads are comfortable to walk on, and there is usually a cool breeze coming in around the bends – if you want to make a small stopover, you can choose similar terrain, but of course, keep an eye out for falling rocks.

There are no guardrails on most of the roads, so be careful not to slide down…

Chen has the valley of Orchid Creek.

Most of the bridges over the Little Avalanche are made of wood.

A rare little climb.

There is only one section of road between two rock walls, it’s a very special view ~ this section is about 10 meters or so, there are chairs made of iron railings to rest when you come out of the rock wall, and it’s very cool under the trees.

When you see a small waterfall flowing over the trail, it means you are not far from Yunlong Waterfall.

Yunlong Falls
After crossing a stone wall with a guardrail, you can reach Yunlong Waterfall.

Yunlong Waterfall has three levels, the total drop has to more than 100 meters, the picture below is the first level, you can walk down to sit on the rocks to rest for a moment, there are also stone walls sheltered from the sun, with the waterfall wind is really good!

The water flows under the bridge to start the second level of the waterfall.

Further along the trail, there is a Cloud Dragon Suspension Bridge, on which you can look back at the Cloud Dragon Waterfall.

Looking back from the suspension bridge, the small bridge in the photo is the one in front of Yunlong Waterfall~.

This is also the view from the suspension bridge, you can clearly see the second waterfall, which is much longer than the first one, very spectacular! The third tier is further down.

Lok Lok Mountain House
Yunlong Falls continues to the back of the road to reach the Eren Falls, which requires an entry permit. My friend and I planned to go there that day, but the road was not in good condition and it started to rain, so we gave up and just walked to Leluoyama House and then returned to the road.

This section of the trail is narrower and also passes through unroped crumbling walls where the stepping points can be slippery, so you need to lower your center of gravity and pass carefully!

Lok Lok Hut has a large clearing where people can stay (you need to bring your own things), I sat on the clearing to have my lunch, rested for a while and then headed back to the road, it is about a 600 meter climb and 5 kilometers to this place.
