Mengzong Bamboo Forest Ancient Battlefield(孟宗竹林古戰場)
The entrances to the Ancient Battlefield and Changyuan Canal are both off of Highway 55, and the two trails are connected to each other. On this trip, I parked my car in the parking lot at the entrance to the Ancient Battlefield, and there was a whole tea plantation on the other side of the lot.

After getting off the bus, you can get ready to enter the bamboo forest, and prepare to walk from the old battlefield to the Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail, and then turn around and come back.

Bamboo forests around Deer Valley are full of mosquitoes, even in the fall of September and October (I’ve been bitten by a lot of mosquitoes around Deer Valley before…). This time, I purposely chose the cold front to come here to walk, 7 degrees 8 degrees of low temperature, not a single mosquito ~ recommended to go in winter!

At the beginning, the bamboo forest was filled with a lot of boulders, which was quite special, and I don’t remember seeing this kind of bamboo forest scenery in my mind.

Soon you will come to the first fork in the road. If you go left, you will be walking towards the Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail, and if you go right, you can climb up to the high point of the ancient battlefield.

Go right first and see how the view is from the upward climb.

In the end, I didn’t make it to the highest point…. Because of the fog, the bamboo forest in the distance was deep in the fog, and I couldn’t see the sky and the mountains in the distance, it was dead white. I decided to walk up again next time if I have a chance to see the scenery.

Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail(長源圳生態步道)
Back to the fork in the road just now, walking towards the Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail, there was a bamboo shoot farmer harvesting young bamboo shoots, and after observing him from the side, he was using a hoe to gently open up the leaves or soil and rocks on the ground, and after seeing the young bamboo shoots exposed for a few centimeters, he could then start digging, and the action was so fast that I didn’t have a chance to see the bamboo shoots, and then he dug them up directly.

You can’t eat the ones that are already visibly sprouting.

Mengzong Bamboo Forest Ancient Battlefield and Changyuan Shenzhen Ecological Trail are connected to each other, and the scenery is a whole sea of bamboo, so it can be said that they are the same attraction.

Because of the humidity, there are many water drops hanging on the bamboo leaves.

After the fork in the road it starts to go slightly downhill.

If you find the scenery monotonous, you can look at the ground and find many interesting things, such as small bamboo poles, mushroom strings, and beautiful mossy rocks. Signs in the forest also remind visitors that blue-bellied Phasianus nycthemerus is found in the area, so they should avoid making a lot of noise!

The ground outside the stone steps is covered with bamboo leaves, which is soft to step on.

Getting ready to walk down the steepest slope on this side, which is actually not very long or steep, so don’t worry about getting tired.

Even with the cold snap, many visitors came to climb the countryside.

At the bottom, we walked down from the right side of the stone steps, so it’s not that steep!

A small ditch next to the stone steps adds a sense of time flow to the stillness of the bamboo forest.

The water is very clear and the aquatic plants are clearly visible.

It’s a great place to take pictures. I spent half an hour with my photography friends in this area.

The couple we met at the ancient battlefield, we met them again when we came to the Chang Yuan Canal Ecological Trail, in fact, they had already finished the whole circle, while we were still walking around taking pictures.

There are a lot of spider webs hanging beside the trail, and the spiders on the top are hanging some water beads, and they don’t move at all, maybe it’s because it’s too cold and they are in a dormant state…. I think it’s a nice look.

There is a large rock wall not far away, signs warning tourists not to enter the road, often falling rocks, we walked a little bit, then encountered a collapsed bamboo forest blocking the way, then we turned back.

You can walk through the bamboo forest in about an hour. It’s not a big place, but it’s good for taking pictures.
