Chiayi 阿里山迷糊步道(Mihu trail),Bamboo Forest Scenic Trail.
The 阿里山迷糊步道(Mihu Trail) and the Fushan Trail are two interconnected trails, both near the Chiayi Alishan Highway, with beautiful bamboo forests at mid-altitude along the way, and the sound of running water from time to time, which is quite cozy, and finally the Fushan Colony with its beautiful tea plantations to enjoy!

迷糊步道(Mihu trail)
The entrance to the trail is near the Alishan Township Office, where you can see a large pavilion, and it’s quite easy to park nearby ~ there weren’t a lot of people when I came on my holiday.
There is a Lemi Suspension Bridge at the beginning, and after checking which stream is the one below, I was a bit surprised to find out that it is an upstream tributary of the Zengwen River, which is really far away from here because its outlet is in the Annan District of Tainan!
After crossing the suspension bridge, you have to climb uphill for a while, and you think you have to climb uphill all the way to the end, but in fact, there is only a small section, from the Misty Trail to the direction of the Fushan ancient road, it is almost downhill all the way ~ and in the Fushan ancient road, it is uphill most of the time.
As soon as you enter the Misty Trail, you can see a sea of bamboo forests, and the faint sunlight coming in is very charming ~ only this trail has a lot of mosquitoes…. The weather is cooler in October, the altitude here is 1,000 meters, but the mosquitoes are very fierce, so we recommend wearing a jacket or coming back in winter is a good choice!
There are places along the trail where you can get close to the water source, but you need to go through some bamboo forests ~ it’s very therapeutic to get close and listen to the gentle sound of the water flowing.
Go through the bamboo forest and get ready to go back to the original trail.
The trail often intersects with small streams, so there are small wooden bridges, and with the emergence of these bridges, the sunlight can shine! Since there is no bamboo forest in the stream, the sky is naturally exposed above the bridge.
Unknown small lizard on the bridge.
There is a lot of water here, it didn’t rain, but there are water droplets on the bamboo branches and leaves of the yam. Besides the mosquitoes, you need to pay attention to the slippery ground here! The heavy moisture caused moss to grow on the ground, especially the wooden trestle is especially slippery.
Where there is a small wooden bridge, you can always see the blue sky ~, have you noticed that the handrails of the bridge are green, they are all moss plants.
茄苳巨木
In the middle of the trail, there is a fork in the road that leads to the Ferris wheel, and when you see the gazebo, you can turn in.
There are a lot of these strange little white flowers growing on green prickly balls near the gazebo, or maybe they’ll turn into a whole white flower afterward.
The road to the Fortuna Tree is uphill all the way. In the photo below, you can see three huge trees that stood out to me, I thought I had already arrived! I thought I’ve reached it. I thought I can take a rest now, but actually I still have about 1/3 of the way to go, but these three trees are quite nice to take photos with.
At the end of this section of the trail, you reach the giant logs(茄苳巨木), and there are places to sit and rest next to them, almost all of which are shaded by trees and very cool.
The second half of the Mihu trail
After seeing the giant icon trees, we returned to the main line of the Misty Trail, and had a fun, gentle descent. The giant rock wall below is quite spectacular, and gives you a sense of pressure.
After the rock wall, I slipped several times and still didn’t fall down…. The handrail is still covered with moss, and although you can’t see the green color in the middle of the wooden trestle, don’t underestimate how slippery it is!
I think the special thing about the bamboo forest here is that the environment also contains a rich variety of other plants, not just a bamboo forest, but also many broad-leaved plants, which makes the scenery has many different layers, and it is one of the most beautiful bamboo forests in my mind!
In addition to the mixture of broad-leafed plants, being next to a stream is a pleasure to see and hear (the sense of touch is facing mosquito bites).
Miyang Suspension Bridge(米洋吊橋)
Walking to the Miyang Suspension Bridge here is the end of the Misty Trail, there will be a pavilion, there are other mountain friends in the pavilion to have lunch that day ~ they also prepared mosquito coils! It seems that they are prepared to come, I myself will bring mosquito repellent. It’s not a big pain in the ass. If you don’t want to continue on the Fushan Road, you can walk across the suspension bridge to get back to the main road, and then back to the Alishan Township Office, or you can walk back the same way.
A view of the clean stream from the Miyang Suspension Bridge.
There are so many fish swimming in the stream! The ecology is really rich.
Fushan ancient road(福山古道)
If you want to take the Fushan ancient road, walk above the suspension bridge and remember to come back to the pavilion, there will be a signboard to tell you the direction of the ancient road, and you can see a completely different scenery when you enter the Fushan ancient road at the beginning! There is a large group of cedar trees, which is also my favorite view.
The humidity here is quite heavy, and ferns can be seen everywhere.
There are fewer small wooden bridges on the Fushan trail than on the Fuzzy Trail, and the bamboo forests can be seen, but relatively fewer, and the forests are quite different, for example, there are pencil trees next to the bridges, which I like quite a bit!
Gupta yam can be found everywhere.
The little shiitake mushroom that grows with the moss, I was originally attracted by the light that hit the wood and just found his existence, but unfortunately that light soon disappeared, or else I could have just brightened up the shiitake mushroom~.
At the end of the Fushan trail, there is a small uphill climb, and then it is almost flat! This is the most comfortable part of the trail I’ve ever walked in a day. After this point, you’ll reach the Fushan settlement mentioned in the route map (I couldn’t find it in the google map, but the route map at the end of the article is the on-site map, which only shows this place).
Fushan Village(福山聚落)
At the time of this post, I’ve been here three times in total. The first two times I stayed at the bed and breakfast here, the one in the picture below. It’s a nice place with a view of the tea plantation and the sunset, so when I’m here in Alishan, I’ll think of this place to stay for a night!
In the middle of October, there are still a lot of flowers here, and I’m curious to see that the golden needles are still in bloom, which shouldn’t be the case in this season.
Wooden buildings with thatched roofs are very common here, and I especially like this style, which goes well with nature. (The toilet is also built like this.)
A large tea garden is particularly healing, this direction to the afternoon to see the sunset (I first came to see it), in front of the planted some wild peonies (just bloomed), all the way from the confused walkway over there is really no resting place, because the mosquitoes are quite a lot, and here is almost no (at least I did not encounter), you can rest for a few moments and then back to the journey!
On the way back, we walked along the old Fushan Road back to the Miyang Suspension Bridge, and then walked straight from the suspension bridge to the main road (the one in front of the Alishan Township Office), and the picture below was taken at the main road ~ the scenery is not bad, and the pavilion is covered with a very beautiful cover.
