Sheding Natural Park

Pingtung Sheding Natural Park,The Sky Pavilion in She Ding Park is an important spot for observing raptor crossings in the fall because of its wide view. Even if you are not watching raptor crossings, it is a good vantage point overlooking the ocean and convenient for watching the sunrise, and the walking paths around the park are very suitable for hiking, making it a good choice for trekking throughout the year!

As long as it is the fall to Kenting, She Ding Park Lingxiao Pavilion is basically the place I must come to ~, accustomed to four o’clock in the morning out of the door, to the time when the day is slightly light, the sun has not yet risen to sea level, you can see that there are already people in the pavilion on the activities.

Wait for a moment and look east to the Pacific Ocean, where you can see the sun slowly rising above sea level, as everyone looks at it.

The sun is lighting up the Ryuban grasslands, and you can see the white balloon clearly.

Looking to the south is the Bass Strait, and the sunrise’s slanting light illuminates the forest, so beautiful!

The west side is blocked by trees, otherwise you can see the Taiwan Strait.

A pavilion can be found not far to the north, but compared with the Ling Xiao Pavilion, it is almost surrounded by trees, the view should not be ideal, and there is no one.

During the eagle-watching season, almost everyone here has a telescope to check the movement of the sky. Most of the time, I wait for someone to call out “over there”, and then I go to probe my head, so I don’t worry that I will miss it.

Hiding in the shade of a tree is also a good option, except that the view is slightly limited by the tree.

If you want to see the eagles, you can first put your eyes on the forested area to the north, they all rise from that direction, and then fly to the south. The following two photos were taken in mid-September when I came to see the Red-bellied Eagle, but the chance of seeing a large number of them in this good weather with blue sky and white clouds is relatively small.

This is the direction of the suspension bridge at Manjhou harbor, where you can see the eagles just flying in the forest.

The Red-bellied Eagle crosses the border in mid-September. If it is the northeast monsoon moving south, the eagles can easily ride on the monsoon, but the weather is prone to rain at this time ~ that’s why I mentioned earlier that there is less chance to see a large number of eagles in a good weather with blue sky and white clouds.

Kenting area is also rich in other bird ecology, the following picture is also in the Lingxiao Pavilion on the green dove, when he was in the picture below on the branches of the big rock next to the tree, has been very far away.

There are a lot of oversized white-spotted butterflies in Shideng Park! They must be more than 10 centimeters, the size of a small bird.

Every time I come here, I will probably stay until about 9:00 a.m. when the number of eagles starts to decrease, and there are quite a lot of tourists continue to stay, not necessarily to watch the eagles, but with the pavilion, breezes, seascape, and mountain view, I believe that it is also a good reason to stay here.

Don’t forget to take a walk around the area. Near the Lingxiao Pavilion are these well-planned woodland walks, where you can enjoy the trees through the light.

October Mid

The following four are Gray-faced Buzzards, all of which come south with the monsoon around mid-October. By the time I publish this post, I have been photographing Gray-faced Buzzards for five years in a row, but I am still excited every time I see them! I have written a special article on Gray-faced Buzzards, please click the link below.

Eagle with red abdomen in mid-September

I have only visited the Red-bellied Hawk twice before posting this article, but I did not encounter a large number of Red-bellied Hawks, at most a few hundred, with brownish-red bellies and smaller sizes than Gray-faced Eagles, so it is not difficult to distinguish between them, I have seen them at the harbor drawbridge and at the Lingxiao Pavilion, and I was able to get closer to them at the harbor.
