The 澀水森林步道(Sheshui Trail ), located in Quichi Township, Nantou County, is a relatively relaxing trail with many beautiful scenic spots and rich ecology along the way. It is a route filled with large ferns and small fish in the streams, and there are four bridges that combine with nature, so it is a great enjoyment to watch the water flow on the bridges and hear the sound of the water, so if you are a nature and ecology traveler, then this trail is a place not to be missed.

澀水森林步道(Sheshui Trail )
Before reaching the trailhead, you need to walk a little further, which is shown on the map at the end of the article. You can park your car near the Golden Palace, which is quite easy to find, and there aren’t that many climbers coming here, so the walk is extraordinarily quiet.
Here is the entrance, after passing through this temporary bridge made of wooden planks, you will start to enter the dense forest, this time I came with a friend whom I haven’t seen for a long time~!
There are a total of four bridges on the trail, of course, the boardwalk at the entrance above doesn’t count ~ and the photo below is bridge number one, the water level is low because the photo was taken in January during the dry season, and some of the trees’ leaves are still brown.
The Jurassic installation artwork, you can tell it’s three dinosaurs, right? This is the second bridge, and there are many large ferns, so it really gives you a prehistoric feeling.
The view from Bridge 2.
This is the second bridge, just found a path can walk to the riverbed, the riverbed is quite clean, not a bit of human garbage, are natural leaves and moss plants, I believe that this is because of the relationship between the few tourists …. I believe it’s because there are fewer tourists… Otherwise, as long as there are more people, there will still be people who love to litter.
The view from the other side of Bridge No. 2, basically the trail starts along the stream side by side, if you keep walking on the river, you can also walk to the bridge under Bridge No. 4, but if there is a trail set up, just take the trail.
There are also a lot of small fish in the stream, as well as a lot of bigger ones, which are captured in the movie at the beginning of the article ~ the ecological resources are really good.
At the beginning, the road was basically very easy and almost flat! The ferns were really special. In this winter, I remembered that there were three cold fronts before I came here, it was a relatively cold year in Taiwan. I don’t know if it was because of this factor, but a lot of ferns were withered here, and as far as I can remember, I haven’t seen so many ferns withered.
Most of the steps are well-traveled stone steps.
The fern leaves are especially green in the backlight.
There is a huge bamboo forest on the way to Bridge No. 3, from the parking area (Gintengong) to the entrance of the trail is a climb, then the entrance to Bridge No. 4 is mostly flat or slightly downhill, which is not too tiring.
From time to time, there are broken trees along the trail.
Bridge No.3 is the smallest one, I tried to look for a good viewpoint on every bridge, but I really couldn’t find any on that day! I took a side shot of my companion as a souvenir.
Bridge No. 4(四號橋)
Bridge No.4 is not far from No.3, and it is the most beautiful bridge! I asked my friend to walk across the bridge and took a picture of me crossing the bridge from the side, and when I looked back, I realized that I liked the feel of the bridge, so I asked him to take a picture of it for me, too ~ the first picture below is my side view, the second and the third are his pictures. (The distance is a bit far, you need to speak louder to communicate)
There are two clusters of bamboos at both ends of the bridge! While I was taking these photos, a couple of tourists passed by and asked us to take photos of them with their cell phones.
The view from Bridge No. 4, I was at the riverbed in the middle and back of the photo, helping my friend to cross the bridge, and then I asked him to walk back from the bridge to the riverbed to take the photo for me after I finished taking his picture, taking photos really requires enthusiasm!
Water platforms(水上平台)
On the other side of the bridge is the water platform, the whole pool is surrounded by trees, so that the water is not affected by the wind, very calm! In the center of the picture, you can see the staircase going up, yes, after the water platform, there will be a small climb.
Partner in front of the water platform.
Looking back at the view of Bridge 4 from the water platform, compared to the photos I took at the riverbed, each of them has its own beauty – I like them all, photography is all about experimentation.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, the first part of the journey is quite flat and easy to walk, whereas after crossing the water platform, you will be greeted with a climb, which is a relatively breathless part of the journey.
waterfall(水上瀑布)
After leaving the water platform and climbing uphill, you will come across a trail that cuts down to the left. This trail is not shown on the map at the end of this article, but I basically use the offline map for my own safety when I walk the trail, and I just saw the waterfall on the offline map. If you are not sure how to get there, we recommend downloading the Shibusui Forest Trail offline map! If you’re not sure, download the offline map of the Shibusui Forest Trail!
I think it’s because there are fewer people on the trail, the route is almost covered with vegetation, and some of the trees are even growing up to the trail, making it even more pristine than the main road that we had previously traveled!
During the dry season in January, there is still a small amount of water flowing down, although not enough to produce a sensational waterfall wind, but the temperature does feel colder, from the main trail to the waterfall, it is all the way to the fast cut ~ so when you go back all the way up the hill, I personally think it is worth it to spend a little energy to come and see this place!
After returning to the main route, a lot of sunlight started to come in. In contrast, the ferns here seldom had any dead leaves, and most of them looked vigorous, which made it feel like a new season.
After stopping the climb, there are fewer mountain walls on the trail, and the environment is no longer suitable for ferns to grow. Low bushes take their place, and the scenery in the second half of the trail is relatively monotonous ~ the trail goes downhill slowly like this, and ends the trail with a downhill ~ the trail ends with a downhill.
