Shih-men Reservoir Maple Forest Trail,a fall scene in December.
December winter is the season when the maple leaves turn red in Taiwan. The Shih-men Reservoir Maple Forest Trail is not far from the entrance, and the hillside is full of maple trees, most of which are more than 30 years old, so you can enjoy the scenery of the reservoir while walking on the stone trail to see the maple forest.

Maple Trail at Shimen Reservoir
Maple Forest Trail is located not far from the entrance of the reservoir, once I got off the bus, I was shocked, not by the scenery in front of me, but by the wind, which was really too strong ~ but the wind does attract people’s eyes, the entrance is at the top of the trail, and the wind will get less and less as you slowly walk down the trail.
The trailhead is next to the road at the entrance, and the maple red here is one of the best of the day, and it’s spectacular to see it from the asphalt road, but there are a lot of tour buses and coaches parked along the roadside, which makes it not so nice to take photos of, while the sidewalks are a good angle to take a picture of it.
A little further back, you can look back at the maple hillside, it is a really big piece, the downside is that a lot of leaves have fallen off, when you get off the bus and feel the strong gusts of wind, you are psychologically prepared, but the seasonal scenery is like this, when you encounter the most beautiful moments are lucky, not encountered as much as possible, just try to be calm and treat it as normal ~ (said so much in fact, it will be a small disappointment, ah), and to give yourself a reason to come back again!
There are a lot of trails in Shimen Reservoir, and there is still a large area to wander around, but I have other plans for that day, so I only plan to walk the Maple Forest Trail, and it should be fine if I have time to stay for half a day or a day.
The trail is divided into several levels, and this beautiful pavilion is the second level. Although the wind blew away many maple leaves, some of them were still left for me to take photos! At least not all of them fell off… I’m glad I got to take some photos.
This is my favorite photo from the maple forest trail. Although the maple leaves are not as dense as in the previous photos, the old couple walking by in the photo makes the photo have a better sense of story, and I like the overall atmosphere better.
Some of the leaves are ready to fall before they turn red. There aren’t many places to see maples in Taiwan at low latitudes, and the famous ones are very far away and crowded, so this trail is considered to be a very good way to get there.
The photo shows the turn of the second floor to the third floor, and there are also many tall maple trees ~There were quite a lot of older groups on the tour bus that day, but there were fewer young people walking down the road, and there were quite a lot of scattered young people.
When I went down to the third level, I had forgotten whether this was a maple forest trail or not. I saw maple leaves all the way down, and I kept going down, thinking that the further down I went, the less windy it would be, and the more maple leaves I could see. The answer is almost the same.
The short trail goes by really quickly, and if you have enough time you can hang out more on the forest trails, there are many forest paths between each level!
