Hualien Shitiping Scenic Recreation, breathtaking coastal marvels.

In the Shitiping Scenic Recreation in Hualien Fengbin, Hualien, there are a number of B&Bs and campgrounds where you can see the beautiful sunrise over the East Coast as soon as you wake up! At the same time, there are also coastal scenery such as kettle caves and one-sided mountains, which is suitable for a slow vacation – walk slowly on your feet and enjoy the waters in the park.

The first place you’ll visit after entering the park is K壺穴, a small grassy area just off the road (about a hundred meters or so) with a clear view of the Shidai Fishing Harbor, and a great place to watch the sunrise!

I woke up early that day and was looking forward to taking sunrise photos, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and rainy the whole day…. That’s why the photos in this article are all gray and misty, but it was relatively cool all day long.

The outer surface of Shitiping pots is protected from the sea by limestone, resulting in the formation of special three-dimensional mushroom-shaped pots, which is a masterpiece of nature that has been in existence for millions of years.

The caves are all along the shoreline, but here you can only view them from a small wooden platform surrounded by a fence to prevent visitors from getting close to the beach (you can only see the local residents fishing along the shoreline ~).

The small platform looks back to the coastal mountain range, and the building in the photo is a bed and breakfast in the park. It’s nice to think that you can wake up in the morning and see the sunrise over the coastline!

Shitiping Shanmian Mountain
The intersection of the one-sided mountain is near the middle of the park (next to the restrooms, there is a sign indicating this~), you need to walk a short section of the rocky trail, and the white hill in the picture below is the one-sided mountain~.

It’s a few hundred meters away, not very far.

The mountains behind us are still stunning at the moment – it’s just that the dark clouds are making me a bit worried that it might rain a lot.

I walked around the hill on one side, and I like the angle below the most, the blue sea water hitting the shore, together with the coastal mountain ranges in the mirror ~ listening to the sound of waves on the spot is really very therapeutic!

A one-sided hill means that one side is a gentle slope that is easy to walk on, while the other side is a steep slope, and when you are facing the Pacific Ocean, in front of you is is this huge rocky cliff.

An old couple was happily taking a selfie, and then the rain that I was worried about came down, and we all rushed back to get out of the rain, and I hid in the car until the rain stopped before I continued to walk back.

Shitiping Campground
The campground is located at the back of the park, and looks like a wooden hut covered with grass (with a tent inside), and is the closest accommodation to the beach in the park, and I like this environment very much!

Each cabin has a table and chairs in front of it, so you can sit here at night and enjoy the starry sky.

Walking across the turf in the campground will take you to the beach in no time.

Next to it is an unusually shaped banyan tree that grows in a T-shape on the grass (kind of like a shiitake mushroom).

Looking north from the campground, you can clearly see the entire single-sided mountain, which was built up by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, and then pushed to the land by plate movement, the grayish-white hills stand alone on the coast is particularly conspicuous.

Shek Tai Fishing Port
If you’re looking for something to eat near the Shitiping Scenic Area, you can go to the fishing harbor in the upper part of the area to eat seafood. There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity, and I don’t remember which one I ate in the beginning, but I just remember that the meat of the mackerel was very tasty. It’s also the birthplace of whale-watching, so you can go and sign up for a whale-watching trip.
