Alishan Bird Watching

Taiwan birds in Alishan,Cherry blossom season is a good time for birds to suck nectar from the blossoms, and this is the best time for bird-watching in Alishan. The beautiful painted birds and the blooming cherry blossoms are a perfect match! The itinerary starts from sunrise, with flower and bird watching, as well as the Sky Trail, which will definitely bring back a lot of memories.

Sunrise is the best place to start.

The time of the day with the most birds is after sunrise, of course you have to come to Alishan to see the sunrise first ~ the itinerary just can be connected, Zhu Shan Observation Deck & Gao Yue are two famous sunrise attractions.

The following picture was taken at Takayak, around four o’clock from the parking lot to start walking trails, hiking about forty minutes can be reached ~ Unfortunately, did not encounter a thick sea of clouds, only thin fog, will choose here to see the sunrise is a reason is relatively quiet, most of the tourists are in the Zhu Shan Observation Deck, I do not like crowded people.

There is a platform here in Takayak, at that time, except for the friends who traveled with us, there was only an old man who watched the sunrise with us, and after watching it, he shared the photos of the silver river he took at the platform in the middle of the night, and I realized that this platform is a hot prospect for taking photos of the silver river! I should have come earlier!

Alishan in Cherry Blossom Season

After watching the sunrise, I was ready to walk around. Cherry blossoms with a small train has always been a photo I’ve wanted to take, but I’ve only taken the one below – I spent most of my time shooting birds, so next time, I’ll have to plan for a few days! The following two photos were taken on the railroad next to Tsushigatake.

Shortly after sunrise many of the forest trails were still lacking in light and were quiet without crowds.

The slanting light in the morning makes the Sky Trail a shadow of light, and this is the highest altitude Sky Trail in Taiwan.

I remember the following two pictures were taken near the Alishan police station, the color of the flowers is white, and there are a lot of green leaves growing on the branches, it is considered to be a variety that ends its flowering period earlier, there are several types of cherry blossoms in Alishan, I didn’t study which one is which one, which one blooms earlier, anyway, the flowering period is about the same ~ pay attention to the information about the flower situation of the year, and then there will be flowers to look at when the person arrives!

The lighting in the garden is my favorite part of the landscape. I have taken many photos of these lights, and I have tried to match them with dead branches, green leaves, and pure sky, but in the end, I think they look the best with cherry blossoms! I can’t describe the beauty of it.

There is also a large cherry blossom tree in the parking lot at the entrance, and visitors who simply come to enjoy the blossoms start their trip on a sunny morning.

In spring, there are cherry blossoms, birds attracted by the nectar of the blossoms, and the sunrise and forest scenery that is always a specialty, so I’ve always picked this time of year to come to Alishan~!

The trees are full of Thrush birds.

During this season, wherever there are flowers, it is easy to watch the birds. Most of them concentrate on eating nectar and will not fly away as long as we don’t intentionally disturb them, and like all animals, they gather wherever there is a lot of food.

Heterophasia auricularis:

This is an endemic bird that can only be seen in Taiwan. The white hairs behind the eyes are very conspicuous, and Alishan is the first place I’ve seen and photographed one! I took pictures of the white-eared eyebrow for almost an hour, and finally picked out a few favorites to share. I believe that the unique white ears will help those who don’t know the bird to remember it, and will give them more impression the next time they see it in the mountains.

Parus monticolus:

I saw a little green guy hopping on the ground, so I hid myself and took this picture. The green-backed titmouse, which looks like a sparrow, can only be seen at middle and high altitudes.

Actinodura morrisoniana:

Like the White-eared Paintbrush, it is endemic to Taiwan, and Tattooed Wings only encountered this one on that day. I was afraid that if I made a move, it would run away, and then I wouldn’t be able to take any pictures of it… I went as far as the camera could reach to avoid disturbing it, but luckily it was very focused on eating the nectar, so I was able to record the picture.

Regulus goodfellowi:

Very cute panda eyes, first time I saw it and I even googled it, it is also endemic to Taiwan ~ I also found that during the summer breeding season, the male’s head crown will be bright orange in color! It’s very beautiful. I’ll have to take photos of his breeding plumage when I have the chance.

Carpodacus vinaceus:

I told my friends that this is a red sparrow, every time I see it, it is jumping around on the ground, basically not very afraid of people, sometimes it will fly to human beings five or six meters away, the following picture just caught it holding something similar to Pugongying, I feel that it is not a food…

Yuhina brunneiceps:

The most common bird I’ve seen is the Crowned Ptarmigan, which is also endemic to Taiwan, and is named after the feathers on the top of its head that are raised! It’s a common bird species in the middle altitude, I’ve seen it quite often, but it often hops in the forest… Thanks to the help of the cherry blossoms, all I’ve gotten in the past are just dark shadows in the forest.

Rhyacornis fuliginosa:

This can only be seen at the water’s edge, very cute, the photo below that is a female bird, the male’s body is dark blue tail orange is very beautiful, Cedar Forest Stream has a lot of them, Alishan here I remember there is no water source look.

Alcippe morrisonia:

When I saw it, I was a bit puzzled. I had always seen it on flat land or in low hills and forests, but I didn’t expect to find it in Alishan, which is at an altitude of about 2,000 above sea level, and then I checked and found that it was really widely distributed.
