Tainan Anping Bike Path

Tainan Anping。When I was a kid living in Anping, I used to come here occasionally. Back then, it was just an ordinary embankment, and my impression was that it was an unplanned place with overgrown weeds. Now, after more than ten or twenty years, it has really changed a lot.

Over time, this embankment has been transformed into a bike path with well-maintained asphalt and wooden railings. The trees on both sides create a beautiful green tunnel, especially in the latter part of the path. (There are almost no trees in the first section of the path.)

The Anping Bike Path prohibits motorbikes, allowing only walking or cycling. Whether on regular days or weekends, during the twilight hours, many people come here for a leisurely stroll, jog, or bike ride. The sunset filtering through the trees is truly beautiful, making it a compelling reason for you to come and explore during the evening.

Throughout the journey, apart from natural fallen leaves, it’s hard to come across any litter along the entire trail (at least not in the photos I took~). I believe everyone who comes here values the environment!

There are quite a few pavilions scattered around the bike path, and there’s no noisy traffic nearby. Take a short break here if you’re tired from exercising.

The bike path has multiple exits that connect to small parks along the riverbank. Although it’s not very wide, it extends all the way to the estuary. Spending a whole afternoon here is no problem, allowing you to truly enjoy a leisurely pace of life.

With a well-thought-out design, the restroom, resembling a mountain cabin, is remarkably clean and tidy. There are also facilities for training small dogs in the vicinity.

The bike path along this riverbank extends from the Tainan Yanshui River to the estuary. In the Anping area, there is a vast mangrove forest where you can easily spot fiddler crabs and mudskippers. Along the entire route, there are several indents with observation pavilions or small platforms.

During winter, many migratory birds visit, and there are eco-friendly boats providing tours within the mangrove forest. I occasionally come here to capture photos of water birds. Approaching evening, the water birds prepare to return to the mangrove forest for the night, making it the best time to observe them.

In this area, you’ll find various heron species, with a prevalence of large, medium, and small egrets, night herons, and little blue herons. Waterfowl, like ducks, are relatively rare in these flowing waters, as they prefer enclosed fish ponds or pools.

In Anping, magpies are common birds, and I’ve had the impression of their distinctive black and white figures since I was little. Basically, you can encounter them whenever you come to Anping.

At the end of the road is the estuary of the Salt Water Creek, where you’ll also find the location of the Sicao Green Tunnel Bridge. It’s a popular spot for photographers capturing the sunset. When I was a kid, you could see lots of tiny crabs on the beach here. Now, it’s more people than crabs. There’s also an observation platform nearby where you can enjoy the sunset. Highly recommended as a must-visit spot in Anping!
