old road less traveled than the original route of a horse's tire

Hsinchu 馬胎古道Trail, super narrow suspension bridge and virgin forest.

馬胎古道Trail,Located in Hsinchu’s Jianshi Township, the Mazui Ancient Trail used to be a connecting road for the indigenous tribes. The trail’s landscape is mostly primitive forested, with super narrow suspension bridges and century-old ibis trees along the trail, as well as boulders and streams that can be viewed from here, making this short two-kilometer trail worth a half-day’s walk.

The junction of Ma Tire Road is next to a pink bridge, parking is quite convenient, there is a large open space for parking, originally I was worried that the parking space would be full in the morning from Nei Wan Old Street, but I guess I was overly worried.

At the beginning of the entrance is a dense forest, half cloudy and half sunny weather is the most suitable for this kind of low altitude trails, the night before the tip of the countryside heavy rain, the trails are wet, the first part of the land so it is not bad, the latter part of the many stone road is really very slippery.

Most of the views of the old Ma Chau Kodo are from the forest, and there are very few of them with a view.

The humid environment has also produced many sansui and goupalos, as well as a variety of ferns and bryophytes.

In addition to the suspension bridge mentioned in the title, there is also a stone (concrete) bridge on the trail, which is also the most photographed spot by mountaineers. There are fewer obvious buildings or sights to take pictures of on the entire trail, and the forested atmosphere makes it possible for so many people to stop and take pictures.

The view from the bridge, when I took this picture, I imagined Mt. Fuji, but a white cloud covered the peak in front of me, and that’s why I thought of it, but of course, the actual view is still very different.

The whole journey was a gentle uphill, and in front of the suspension bridge was a nice walking trail, the neat and tidy trail brought guidance to the eyes ~ after crossing the suspension bridge there were a lot of wet and slippery rocks, not as nice as in front of here.

There are quite a few boulders on the way, and these two could be used as a natural stone gateway.

The only small pavilion, although it is not a difficult trail, but I heard a few tourists say that they couldn’t walk anymore, so I waited for everyone to return to the pavilion and then descended down the mountain together, that’s how it is when you climb a mountain, you don’t necessarily have to go to the end of the trail, you just have to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of the trail.

The hundred-year-old ibiscus tree is not far from the pavilion, and it is the biggest tree on the trail.

The ultra-narrow suspension bridge is also the highlight of this trail, this is also the smallest suspension bridge I’ve ever walked on, it’s really not easy to walk on, your feet can easily kick the ropes next to you, the number of people you can carry is not many and you can only move forward slowly, which makes this place the most congested place ~ but it’s full of freshness.

After the suspension bridge, there is a wet and slippery rocky road. When I was on my way back, I saw an elderly man walking with his hands in his pockets, and I was really in a cold sweat for him! I slipped a lot myself….

deforestation

There is a small stream right next to the trail, and the water is so clear that I wonder if there are any small fishes in it.

streams

I wasn’t late, but there was already a large group of climbers ready to descend, and when I saw the fallen logs on the trail, I wanted to take a picture of them – and then I took a picture of them on their way back down.

The view from the low elevation Ma Tetsu Kodo is of dense broad-leaved woodland, which is not as neat as the forests at middle and high elevations, but appears to be more alive.

The only vendor on the trail, it’s really a blessing to have something to eat near the end of the trail, but it’s a pity that there were no seats left when I arrived, most of the mountaineers chose to eat here, the vendor is on the right side of the maple tree in the photo (I didn’t take a picture), and I came back to eat a tea leaf egg after reaching the end of the trail, and I just sat down under the maple tree to enjoy it~!

Finally, you will pass a small bamboo hut on the hillside, which looks like a storage room. Bamboo huts in the forest look like they blend in very well with the environment!

At the end of the trail, you will see a few famous lodgings, and then you can see the mountains in front of you.

My photo tips to share

Share one:

Since the scenery of this trip is relatively chaotic broad-leaved woodland, you can try to find an eye-catching object (i.e., the main body), and the pavilion on the trail is a very good main building, and at this moment, you just need to place it directly near the center of the picture, and then you will be able to get a satisfactory picture. The advantage of placing it in the center is that the left and right side of the forest will be more symmetrical, and visually it will be more regular.

Share II:

The same applies to the use of walkways as guides, which is to create a pattern in a chaotic scene, which has been shared in many previous articles, and walkways are considered to be a very good use of guides! Similarly, placing the walkway directly in the center of the screen can have a good effect.
