When you get out of the car, look at the whole tunnel, try to go underneath the sheltered area first! There are always falling rocks here in Taroko, and I’ve heard small rocks fall near me… I was shocked.

The stream between the valleys is the Tatewaki Stream. The valleys are carved out by water over the years, and you have to marvel at the power of nature, and the streams here in Taroko are turquoise-colored and beautiful.

Halfway through the tunnel there is a cut down to the next level of the open tunnel, the road above is closed to traffic as there is no shelter and the road is full of falling rocks of all sizes…. You can go back to the upper level after a short walk on the lower level.

Walking back to the upper level and looking back, I took a picture of the bright tunnel at the top of the photo, which is where I came from in the beginning, and the plants between the stone walls are also very powerful, and they will burrow into the crevices when there are gaps. When I took these two photos, there was no cover above my head, my eyes were focused on the composition, and my ears were focused on listening to any unusual noises….

There is a white stone on the upper part of the trail in the photo below, I don’t know if you can spot it or not ~ that’s the end point of Nine Quarters Cave, and then we have to go back the same way. According to the height of the tunnel, you will find that the trail we took has a big drop from the stream! The rock wall is really spectacular. (The upper left corner is in the dark area, the railing to the upper center is the open tunnel for people to walk through)
